Miscellaneous Press is pleased to announce that submissions are open for An Equal Task: Celebrating Australian Women’s Writing.
Considerable debate and discussion continues to surround the subject of women who write. From recent comments by VS Naipaul and his opinions on the sentimental, limited range of women’s writing to the creation of The Stella Prize, an Australian literary award for women, it is clear that there are gaps to span and perceptions to challenge even now in the 21st Century.
An Equal Task: Celebrating Australian Women’s Writing invites submissions from Australian women who wish to explore the mysteries of this, at times, difficult vocation as we juggle all the other responsibilities of daily life. This collection will not have a formal theme as such, but submissions addressing the above issues will be preferred. Further suggestions include: life, work/play balance, spirituality, ambition, goals and careers.
Please read the guidelines below:
Submission Conditions
• Submissions open Thursday 20th October 2011.
• Submissions must be received by 5pm, Eastern Australian Time, Sunday 18th December 2011.
• Each entry must be the author’s original work, in English, not previously featured in any offline publication.
• Pieces will be considered anonymously. Do not include your name or any identifying information on your submission, only the title and page numbers.
• Copyright of work remains with the author/artist.
• Successful contributors will be notified of their acceptance by the end of January 2012. Please include an email address.
• Please note Miscellaneous Press is a small, personally funded press, and we are unable to pay for contributions for this publication. Contributors will receive a complimentary copy of the anthology.
• There is a maximum of three submissions per person.
Non-Fiction
• Non-Fiction including personal essays and memoir.
• 3000 words maximum.
Poetry
• 100 line limit per poem or suite of poems.
Blog Posts
• Blog posts will be considered, providing they adhere to certain criteria:
- They fall under the Non-Fiction or Poetry categories.
- They have not been published offline, either before – or since – initial posting.
- If they have been re-posted on a third party website, you must still have copyright and this site/hyperlink must also be noted in your submission.
- Posts must have been first published in 2011.
Artwork
• Black and White or Colour Images will be considered. Please note: within the text the images will be printed as black and white. Only the cover may appear in colour.
• Illustrations will also be considered.
• If selected, we will need the high-resolution image to be provided on CD.
Only Online Submissions Will Be Considered
• Send your submissions together in a single attachment and not in the body of an email. Rtf or MS Word are preferred. Formatting guidelines: entries must be double spaced, 12 point, Times New Roman. Artwork may be submitted as a .jpg or .pdf. Also include a completed cover sheet of personal contact details (Name, Address, Email, Phone Number).
